First you will rank your favorite New England sports team, , ,  or   from one through four on a 3x5 index card with your name to your teacher (Anyone choosing any  team will be docked 5 points)

Once the teacher has all of the cards, the teams will be formed by putting students into groups based on their team selection.  If there are an overly large number for one team the teacher will break that group into smaller groups until each team has four members.

After you have been assigned a group, you will move the chairs/desks/tables into groups that will accommodate all of the members in one area.   Students in the group will decide who wants to choose a Confederate soldier and who wants to choose a Union soldier.  There needs to be two of each army for every group.

The selection of soldiers will be limited to a maximum of 3 students per soldier.  However, each soldier must be selected before any duplications will be allowed.  Once you have chosen your soldier, either Union or Confederate, you will work with the other person in your group that has chosen the same army.  You both will begin a web search by clicking on the picture of your soldier below. From that information you will need to find a minimum of two additional sources of infomation.  Any web sites or links found will have to be approved by the teacher.  When you find a link with information about your soldier bring the link to the teacher to discuss the value of the information and the quality of the link.

You must have a minimum of 3 sources for your presentation only one of which may be an encyclopedia.  Other print media such as books, magazine articles or academic journals will be based on teacher approval.  Wikipedia is NOT an acceptable source.  Google images or video may be used, however correct citation of the image or video is important.  The students must find the ORIGINAL artist and not the image.google for correct citation.  All sources must be properly cited and referenced on a works cited or bibliography page.  There will be zero tolerance for plagiarism, any that is found will be dealt with according to established school academic policy.

Areas to be considered when performing this task are education, experiences prior to Gettysburg, experiences at Gettysburg, and life after Gettysburg.  If your character was one of the thousands killed at Gettysburg their contributions can still be considered the best, but your story would not contain an after battle synopsis.

The teacher will select presentations in a random order by alternating one Union and one Confederate.  Any presentations of the same individual will be completed on the same day.

Presentations should be a minimum of 5 minutes, but no longer than 10 minutes.  Windows Movie Maker or iMovie are acceptable formats for the presentation, however the conclusion must be done ‘live’ so the presenter has an opportunity to field questions from the audience members.

Students will be graded on both presentation and product skills.  When not presenting, the students are required to remain attentive, as they are portraying the members of the Historical Society.  Any student not paying attention during the course of a presentation will have that reflected on their performance rubric.
